Glamping in the Jungles of Wilpattu, Sri Lanka

glamping in Sri Lanka

Wilpattu National Park is the second most popular destination to see leopards in Sri Lanka. While browsing through places to stay in Wilpattu we came across this next-level safari camp which seamlessly blends in with nature.

Glamping in Wilpattu

There are a lot of glamping spots in Wilpattu, but not many sustainable options. Mahoora by Eco Team is Sri Lanka’s first carbon neutral safari camp, and Eco Team is a pioneer of eco-tourism in Sri Lanka. So, being eco-conscious travelers this was naturally our first choice. Mahoora by Eco Team is a fully-sustainable, luxury five-star glamping experience inclusive of a safari game drive.

The tents are set up among the trees and are very spacious. They have a living area, a cozy and comfy bedroom and a tiny bathroom – inclusive of all the necessary amenities. We loved the interior design.

Being a sustainable eco-friendly resort, the campsite is entirely plastic-free. We were provided with glass water bottles, porcelain and glass candle-holders. Even the lampshades are made of cloth.

Dining at Mahoora Camp

They have outdoor dining, which is amazing because there’s so much nature to enjoy. They only move it inside if there’s rain. Breakfast and lunch is served under the shade of the trees. And dinner is a candle-lit affair under the stars, with the tables set around a campfire.

Breakfast is a delicious selection of Sri Lankan and international favorites. Their quality of food is really going to surprise you. We loved everything.

For lunch, there is a changing menu of delicious Sri Lankan cuisine. They also provide Cooking Lessons. If you arrange it right before lunch, you can learn to prepare a Sri Lankan curry and have it for lunch along with the chefs specials!

Wilpattu National Park Safari

The largest and one of the oldest national parks of Sri Lanka, Wilpattu is famous for its dense leopard population. And it has a unique landscape with thick jungles and nearly a hundred “Willus” or natural lakes which are filled with rainwater. This gives Wilpattu its name – which means “the land of the lakes”. How so majestic!

Go out with your naturalist early in the morning or late afternoon, learn about the park and its wildlife and be even more amazed by the place you’re staying at!

Mahoora by Eco Team provides a dedicated naturalist to each tour group. Their naturalists have so much knowledge and excellent tracking talents, and you will have an unforgettable experience.

Here are some more pictures of the campsite.
